Exemplification of standards

image of what CPD reflect looks like online

The Professional Standards provide a map of the professional development of teachers from Initial Teacher Education to maintaining and enhancing Standard for Full Registration. The Standard for Chartered Teacher and the Standard for Headship can support professional development for teachers interested in a more specific leadership role. These ‘maps’ are detailed and examples are important for teachers and leaders in the self-evaluation process.

An important part of the work of the CPD Network and the National CPD Team is bringing the Professional Standards to life by exemplification.
  • The General Teaching Council for Scotland publishes the Professional Standards and provides guidance.
  • Some local authorities are now explicitly using the Standards in their PRD process and thus a lot of the exemplification is evident at local level.

CPDReflect

The toolkit, CPDReflect, will help teachers share examples of interesting practice across the Standards in two ways:

  • For each Standard, they can see examples of the Standards in action and in context (eg using HMIE good practice material).
  • They can choose to share their own exemplification with colleagues locally or nationally.
